bullying

A topic was discussed in one of my classes today that got me somewhat concerned.: bullying in the work place.  The scenario:  a coworker of yours is being bullied by your boss.  What would you do?

While I understand that many would fear of losing their job if they were to speak on their coworker's behalf.  I really do.  But, if we were all to stay mum in the face of injustice, what kind of message would that send to our kids?  What kind of role model would we be if we turn the other cheek?  I was asked that question and my answer was that I would talk actually address the problem to the upper management.  Sure, that would potentially put me on the hit list with the bullying boss but you know what?  I would rather stand up for my beliefs than to be a walking hypocrite.

There was one student that disagreed with me, of course, but that did not surprise me.  Many people would simply stay quiet and let the bullying continue.  Those people think, "Hey, I'm not the one being bullied, why should I care?"  This is why many young kids continue to be bullied in school and many end up committing suicide.  Lots of times, the person being bullied does not have the courage to confront that bully.  Those people need the help of others.  I wonder how often do these young kids wish that someone would help them in those times of need.

This is the society that we now live in.  I guess it's everyone for themselves.  It's sad.

love day

Because of my hectic schedule, I totally forgot about V-day.  Oh yes, Vday!  It's that time of the year again when couples who are no longer in love pretend to be in love.  Yes, that one day out of the whole year that forgetting to buy her a bouquet of flowers will really get you in trouble.

I'm not a huge fan of Valentine's day. I mean, you don't need a "holiday" to show your significant other how special he or she is.  If you really cherish that person you have the entire year to show it.  If it was up to me, shower me with gifts 365 days of the year =)

Okay, back to the point.  To those who are in love, may your love grow stronger.  And to those who aren't, I hope you find love :)

clean slate...

It's funny how people tend to try to come up with a clever opening line or a witty introduction only to scrap all that in the end (myself included).  As I have come to realize, it is easier to just type down the words that first come to mind and the rest will flow easily.

Someone told me today that self esteem can be rebuilt through gradual achievements.

I don't know how many others out there who share the same feelings that I have, but I feel that the statement is very true and somewhat comforting.  To be able to get back what you've lost is like getting a second chance.  Despite all the mean people I have faced in life and all the discouraging situations I've been through, I was able to maintain a positive self esteem largely because of those gradual achievements.  I was able to quietly pat myself on the shoulder and say that I am better today than I was yesterday.

Thanks to this reminder, I will continue to set goals for myself and gradually become a better person than I myself could ever imagine.

Lotus flowers are so beautiful but you'll learn to appreciate its beauty even more once you learn of its life cycle.  In order for it to reach the surface of the water to flower, it has to grow in the muddiest of water.
