A topic was discussed in one of my classes today that got me somewhat concerned.: bullying in the work place. The scenario: a coworker of yours is being bullied by your boss. What would you do?
While I understand that many would fear of losing their job if they were to speak on their coworker's behalf. I really do. But, if we were all to stay mum in the face of injustice, what kind of message would that send to our kids? What kind of role model would we be if we turn the other cheek? I was asked that question and my answer was that I would talk actually address the problem to the upper management. Sure, that would potentially put me on the hit list with the bullying boss but you know what? I would rather stand up for my beliefs than to be a walking hypocrite.
There was one student that disagreed with me, of course, but that did not surprise me. Many people would simply stay quiet and let the bullying continue. Those people think, "Hey, I'm not the one being bullied, why should I care?" This is why many young kids continue to be bullied in school and many end up committing suicide. Lots of times, the person being bullied does not have the courage to confront that bully. Those people need the help of others. I wonder how often do these young kids wish that someone would help them in those times of need.
This is the society that we now live in. I guess it's everyone for themselves. It's sad.
